Mistletoe Therapy

Mistletoe - botanically seen a semi parasite, is probably the best known representative of phyto-therapeutic drugs in cancer treatment. Rudolf Steiner, the founder of anthroposophy firstly used it parenterally in tumor therapy.

Nowadays, single ingredients of the mistletoe extract can be isolated and even standardised. "Mistlelektin 1" applied in lower doses is said to have cytostatic and immunological effects.

Mistletoe portions available in Germany are undiluted extracts, which according to indication are dosed differently. Low doses have a primarily immune stimulating effect whereas high doses may have cytotoxic power (tumor cells destroying power).

Indications are adjuvant tumor therapy (preoperative and postoperative), postoperative prevention of recurrence, and defined premalignant lesions.
High doses of mistletoe extract administered by infusion, may have a tumor cell destroying effect with some types of cancer including the non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Given that the treatment is performed by experienced therapists there are no side effects to be expected. Individual allergic reactions might be possible.
